Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on behalf of the Federal Government has handed over the responsibility of new Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
This came after the Federal Government charged NSCDC to develop a comprehensive scheme that will ensure protection and safety of children in the country from kidnappings and attacks by bandits and armed men.
In Aregebsola’s words, “children are a specially protected social category. They are innocent and at the same time vulnerable. They are as vulnerable to external circumstances as to their own wiles”.
The minister made this in his office in a statement titled ““Your moment to be a Hero” on Monday the 1st of March 2021.
Aregbesola reminded the new Commandant-General that he is taking up the responsibility at a critical time when the country is facing security situations. He reminded Audu that the journey will be rough but motivated him to navigate hard times and work in line with the policy of President Muhammadu Buhari Administration for victory.
The interior minister who showed sadness over the continual kidnappings in schools asked the NSCDC to continue to work in unity with other security agaencies with a motive of restoring peace and security in the country especially within school environments.
He further charged the leadership of NSCDC to make the scheme wide to also ensure protection of national assets in the country. Pointing to Agro Rnagers, the minister said schemes to cover agriculture and protect farmers as well as pastoralist is necessary for food security in the country.
The new commandant thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve and he pledged total commitment of the corp to the realisation of the president’s mandate.
Audi gave an assurance that the NSCDC under his watch will improve on institutional wellness and also reduce the unpleasant happenings ongoing in the country.
