The convoy of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, was on Sunday involved in an auto crash while on its way to Makurdi from Abuja.
However, the governor was not in the convoy as of the time of the crash.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Terver Akase, confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday.
He said the governor’s convoy was involved in an accident shortly after accompanying the governor to the Abuja airport.
The statement read in part, “The governor’s convoy was on the way from Abuja to Makurdi after accompanying him to the airport for his trip to the United Kingdom when a Golf car collided with one of the security vehicles.
“We thank God that no life was lost in the incident.
“Governor Ortom, who has already arrived safely in the UK, deeply appreciates all the calls and concerns from Benue people and other Nigerians.”
Ortom is expected to spend two weeks both in the United Kingdom and United States of America.
According to Akase, the governor was invited as a special guest to two international summits this week in the UK and United States.
