As Osun politicians are moving closer to the soapbox for politicking after the announcement on June 16 by the electoral umpire that the people of Osun will on July 16,2022 go to the polls to elect candidate of their choice as governor, the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)in Osun has been on the move to upend the crisis asphyxiating them.
Speaking with TOS News on Friday on the ruling of Justice S.O. Oke of an Osun High Court sitting in Osogbo on Thursday which suspended judgement on a matter bordering of substantive Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, Osun PDP Youths Leader, Gbenga Adewole said the party, despite its toxic situation has a chance of winning 2022 election with the good people of Osun.
“With yesterday’s judgement, nothing will distract us again; we will focus on the task ahead of us as a party which is to present credible and winning candidate for Osun State masses. The chance of winning the election is bright with the support of the good people of the state,” he said.
The ruling on Thursday followed an application before the court of Appeal by Counsel to Sunday Bisi, Nathaniel Oke, SAN, challenging the court’s decision allowing Soji Adagunodo counsel, Edmund Biriomoni to respond to issues raised orally.
“We can’t preempt the court but Osun state PDP has a good case before the court. Our legal luminaries are doing good job in defending our case before the court,” he said when asked if he foresees Appeal Court to rule in favour of Hon. Bisi.
The chieftain of the party who maintained that the leadership brawl is a family matter, also hinted that the erstwhile chairman of the party, Soji Adagunodo who was alleged to have formed a “political tryst” with the APC will not diminish the party’s chances in the gubernatorial election if he loses in court.
“I believe Hon. Olusoji Adagunodo will not spoil game for the party he has benefited immensely from. We all work together to enthrone good governance for the people of the state that APC administration has subjected to suffering and hardship. This is family issue which will be settled by our leaders. We all believe that Osun people have suffered enough, so they have to be rescued by the PDP government.”
Soji Adagunodo was suspended by the National Working Committee of the PDP on June 1,2020 over allegations of malfeasance, maladministration and anti- party activities. The struggle for the soul of the party has since been on the stratosphere.
