Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and supporters of Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior and former governor of the state, on Thursday alleged that some party members were plotting to assassinate them.
The Osun Progressives (TOP), who are supporters of the former governor disclosed that some elements in government who are in support of Adegboyega Oyetola,the incumbent governor have planned to attack and assassinate some TOP leaders.
The leader of The Osun Progressives,Lowo Adebiyi, in a press conference which took in the state capital, said security agents have been notified about the attack.
Adebiyi urged security agents to take the rights steps by investigating the claim and ensuring the lives of the leadership and members of the TOP are protected.
The state secretary of the APC, Rasaq Salinsile, also said the lives of party members who belong to TOP caucus are in danger.
Kunle Oyatomi, who is the APC Director of Publicity,Research and Strategy in Osun state, said Governor Oyetola and the chairman of the party were not killers and APC is not a party of killers.
Oyatomi said those who said their lives were threatened should provide evidence.
He said the internal crisis is not in anyone’s interest and urged all APC members to see themselves as a family.
TOS NEWS reported in May that the Elders Caucus of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, suspended the leader of a splinter group, ‘The Osun Progressives,’ Lowo Adebiyi, a former chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria for anti-party activities.
The splinter APC group, with the acronym ‘TOP’, is said to enjoy the backing of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who was named as chairman of its Board of Trustees.
