Oyetola Makes Fresh Appointments amid Political Crisis
By Adebayo Fajinmi
The Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has defied political tsunami rocking the ruling APC in the state as he appointed Hon. Sunday Akere and Hon. Debo Badru as his Special Advisers on Political Matters.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, announced the appointment in a statement issued on Monday and obtained by TOS NEWS.
According to the statement, Akere and Badru’s appointments take effect from October 18, 2021.
Akere, a former Commissioner of Information and Strategy in the State during Aregbesola’s administration is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan where he obtained a Bachelor of Science. He is also a member of several professional bodies including Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, and the Civilian Institute of Democratic Administration, Ghana.
He is a member of the governing board of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research.
Badru, an astute political strategist from Iwo local government of Osun State, and a respected community leader, holds a Diploma from Nigerian Air Force Technical Training School, Kaduna, and served as an Air Force Officer between 1983 and 1990, when he retired to venture into politics.
Last Saturday during the APC State Congresses, the Osun State faction of the party, The Osun Progressives (TOP) loyal to Aregbesola held a parallel Congress.
In the parallel State Congress, immediate past Secretary of the party, Hon. Rasaq Salinsile, was elected as the new APC Chairman while former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Adelani Baderinwa who served under Aregbesola was elected State Secretary.
However, the Congress supported by the Chairman of the National Committee of the Congress in Osun, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye in the state, unanimously elected Prince Gboyega Famodun for another term of four years.
A member of the faction and one of Aregbesola’s allies who spoke on condition of anonymity with TOS NEWS said, Oyetola is running a ‘biased administration’ which will spell a doom for the party in 2022 governorships election.
In his remark on Saturday, the State Party Chairman-elect, Prince Gboyega Famodun, however has appealed to the faction to bury the hatchet in order to collectively work for the re-election of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola during next year’s governorship election.
“Let’s join hands together and perform our usual political feat of ensuring the continuity of the ruling government. Time is not on our side. Let’s work for the perpetuation of our government in Osun State through all- known legitimate means,” he said.
