Police detectives were reportedly searching the forests in Edo State to arrest the killers of Olajide Sowore, the younger brother of activist Omoyele Sowore, who was shot dead on Saturday by suspected kidnappers in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed by the police spokesman in the state, Kontongs Bello, on Sunday in Benin.
He said, “It has become very necessary for the police to inform the general public that the police are on top of the situation since the incident happened yesterday (Saturday) at about 6:45a.m.
“Bush combing has started yesterday and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Philip Ogbadu, has directed that all the tactical teams and the Divisional Police in Okada join hands in combing the forest.”
In a message yesterday, Omoyole Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) however, said his family was not aware of any police investigation of his brother’s killing despite the Federal Government’s promise to apprehend the murderers of his brother.
The message reads in part: “Thank you all for reaching out with great love and kind words of consolation, support and solidarity over the tragic but still unexplained death of my dearest brother, Felix Olajide Sowore.
“Despite the noise from Nigerian government officials promising to ‘apprehend’ my brother’s killers, we are not aware that any security agency is carrying out rescue operations to free those purportedly abducted or investigating the identity of Jide’s murderers.”
