President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered for the immediate suspension of the inauguration of the newly appointed Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) till further notice.
The suspension was disclosed on Tuesday night in a statement issued by Mr. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The inauguration of the board was initially scheduled to hold on Wednesday the 24th of November, 2021.
“A new date for the inauguration of the Board will be announced in due course. We deeply regret inconveniences caused to members by this suspension, please,” the SGF said.
The President, on the 19th September, approved the appointment of the Board and Management of the NNPC Limited with Senator Ifeanyi Ararume as Chairman and Umar I. Ajiya as the Chief Financial Officer.
Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, who announced the appointment, said President Buhari appointed the Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mr Mele Kyari, as the Chief Executive Officer, in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
Other board members announced Femi Adesina are; Dr Tajudeen Umar (North East), Mrs Lami O. Ahmed (North Central), Mallam Mohammed Lawal (North West), Senator Margaret Chuba Okadigbo (South East), Barrister Constance Harry Marshal (South South), and Chief Pius Akinyelure (South West).
