13 time league winners Real Madrid produced a shocking comeback against Manchester City at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night to set up a Champions League final against Liverpool.
Real’s Karim Benzema netted an extra-time penalty winner to produce a 6-5 aggregate win over City.
Real were minutes away from being dumped out of Europe following Riyad Mahrez’s 73rd-minute strike to give Pep Guardiola’s side a two-goal cushion.
But Los Blancos never gave up with 21-year-old winger Rodrygo scoring in the 90th and 91st minutes of the match to take the Champions League semi-final to extra time with the score level at 5-5 on aggregate.
The epic turnaround was complete when Karim Benzema converted a penalty in the opening five minutes of the additional period.
Real, who also came from behind in the previous two rounds against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, reached their first Champions League final since 2018 when they beat Liverpool 3-1.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side will now be looking for revenge against the Spanish champions in Paris on May 28 as Real boss Carlo Ancelotti looks to become the first manager to win the competition four times.
