The Rivers State government has pardoned an additional forty-six correctional service inmates.
This takes the number of pardoned inmates in one week from the facility to 56 after ten inmates were pardoned by Justice Simeon Amadi,the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
This move follows the directive of Justice Amadi for Chief Magistrates to be deployed to the Correctional Centre to hear cases and free inmates arrested for minor offences.
The released inmates, while expressing joy for their freedom, lauded the state’s CJ for the move. They also promised never to go back to the crime that got them detained.
A statement released by David Ihia-Maduenyi, the Acting Chief Registrar of the High court of Rivers State disclosed that court officials, legal officers of the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, the Rivers State Police Command, personnel of the Legal Aid Council among other stakeholders were all in attendance at the special court session.
