President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has appointed Senator Emmanuel Bwacha as Chairman of the Committee on Procurement few days after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Lawan confirmed the appointment of the Senator representing Taraba South, at the opening of plenary on Wednesday.
Bwacha was the Senate Deputy Minority Leader before his defection. But in a letter addressed to the Senate on Tuesday, the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu nominated Shuaibu Lau, a lawmaker representing Taraba North Senatorial District as the new Deputy Minority Leader.
Also on Wednesday, the Senate President announced Lau’s appointment as the Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Works.
Bwacha said he left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress to escape the “apparent persecution” of the state governor, Darius Ishaku.
