Abuja, Nigeria – Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama was presented with an Ancient bronze sculpture with origin from Ile-Ife in Nigeria.
The bronze sculpture was presented to Mr. Onyeama by Dr. Yakubu Dadu, Charge Affairs of The Nigerian Embassy in Mexico.
In a Tweet on the Minister’s official Twitter page noted that Ife bronze was stolen from Nigeria and noticed at an airport in Mexico by our Ambassador at the time, Aminu Iyawa.
Mr Onyeama said
“He was suspicious and alerted the authorities who played a significant role in ensuring it was recovered and handed back to us. Many thanks to the Government of Mexico for the significant role relevant agencies played in ensuring the return of this valuable artefact”.
While showing appreciation to the Mexican government for its role in the return of the artefact, Mr. Onyeama promised to present the artefact to the Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed.
