The United Kingdom has pledged support for the Nigerian Senate, led by Bukola Saraki.
The pledge was made Friday by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, who paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Saraki, the News Agency of Nigeria reported.
According to NAN, Mr. Pocock promised Britain’s support for the Nigerian Senate.
Mr. Saraki was elected Tuesday as Senate President, in a controversial poll condemned by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari said the process was “constitutional”, and assured he will work with those elected.
Britain is the first country to pledge support for the Senate since Mr. Saraki’s election Tuesday.
