Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has decorated the acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba in the State House on Wednesday.
Present at the ceremony at the Vice President Conference Hall are the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; former IGP, Mohammed Adamu; Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu and his colleague in the office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande.
President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday approved DIG Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector General of Police.
Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi disclosed this to State House Correspondents on Tuesday at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Buhari had on February 4th extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for three months.
Adamu has spent two months and three days.
Profile Of Usman Alkali Baba
Alkali Baba Usman was born in 1963 in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
He joined the Nigeria Police on March 15, 1988 and holds a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers College, Potiskum.
He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (ED) degree in Political Science from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from Bayero University, Kano.
Until his appointment as the acting IGP on Tuesday, he had held several positions in various commands of the force.
He served as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Yola, Gombe, Kaduna and Jos.
Alkali served in Ilorin, Kwara State as Area Commander, second-in-command in Ebonyi State and Assistant Commissioner, CID, in Kaduna.
He also served in Kaduna as the deputy commissioner (administration) and in FCT as deputy commissioner of police (Investigation). He was also in the staff college as a directing staff.
He became a commissioner of police in January 2014 and AIG in July 2016.
