DELTA State Government has declared Thursday August 16 and Friday 17, 2018, as work free day to enable public servants participate fully in the ongoing voters registration exercise.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, said the the public holidays was to enable all Public officers who have not registered before to do so to avoid being disenfranchised.
The statement also urged public servants that are yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs to take advantage of the period to do so.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Local Affairs, Mr Joyce Overah, said the state government has consistently augmented the salaries of the local government council workers.
Overah who spoke during the ongoing ministerial press briefing, said some local government councils in the state were currently owing their workers as much as seven months salary arrears.
According to him, “four local government areas have really exited the recession trap of unpaid salaries”, adding that the Directorate has been proactive and has helped to avert conflict and industrial problems “through early/prompt disbursement of funds received from the Federation Account to the Councils.”
He also said the Directorate has been complementing security efforts of the local government councils through regular zonal security and intelligence gathering meetings.
