The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Iyorchia Ayu has expressed confidence that the party would win 25 of the 36 states in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
The PDP chairman stated this during a thanksgiving service and reception held in his honour at the Aper Aku Stadium on Sunday in Makurdi, Benue State.
He also stated that the PDP was ready to give a good fight in the 2022 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
He said, “We are determined to reclaim at least 25 states in the country. We will stop the drift of people who migrated from PDP to other parties;we shall move on a serious drive for more people in the party.
“Every single member of the PDP will be carried along. It is the only way we shall rebuild our party. The PDP will fight tooth and nail to win Ekiti and Osun elections. Those mistakes which made us lose the election in the past will be corrected.”
Ayu who described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a ‘contraption’, predicted its collapse in 2023.
He added that Nigeria would not collapse but will remain united, respected and would be at the forefront of world affairs.
The new party chairman was sworn in last Friday, in Abuja. While giving his acceptance speech, he vowed to reposition the party.
He said, “Our task at this auspicious moment is to return the party to the people. But to do that, the party needs to be reinvigorated, reinvented and repositioned. We are not unmindful of our missed steps and actions in the past, but we have learnt our lessons, both in government and in opposition.
Today, we stand tall, and with a firm resolve to rebuild our great party and rescue our nation.”
