The Bayelsa State Police Command has said it is committed to providing an enabling environment for the peaceful conduct of Saturday’s rerun House of Assembly elections in Ekeremor Constituency 3 and Southern Ijaw Constituency 4.
The command in a release on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said it has therefore put adequate measures in place to ensure successful elections.
Butswat did not disclose the number of men and officers deployed for the exercise.
He however said security agents have been ordered to enforce the restrictions of movement of boats and all river craft activities in the waterways leading to the affected communities from 7pm Friday 4th to 7pm Saturday 5th March, 2016.
“Any person or group of persons who violate this order will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly”, he warned.
He also advised all policemen attached to Very Important Personalities (VIPS) not to go near any polling booth.
“Officers must follow the rule of law and limit their actions to protection of life and property and safety for all electoral officers and materials.
“Undercover operatives will monitor activities of policemen and electoral officials deployed for the election exercise”, Buswat said.
The PPRO called on the electorate in Southern Ijaw 4 and Ekeremor 3 to come out and exercise their franchise by casting their votes for the candidates of their choice.
