West Ham United have fined France international Kurt Zouma N141, 026, 625.00 which will be donated to animal welfare charities.
The club’s decision followed a trending video showing Zouma, hitting, dropping, and kicking his pet across his kitchen floor on Monday.
Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (RSPCA) had taken away Zouma’s cat for a check-up.
In statement released on Wednesday, RSPCA said the cats “are safe and in our care”.
“Our priority is and has always been the wellbeing of these cats,” an RSPCA spokesperson said.
Zouma, who insisted that it was an isolated incident has however tendered an apology.
“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again,” he said.
Essex Police have confirmed “urgent enquiries” were underway in conjunction with the RSPCA.
