Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti says he dropped Alex Iwobi from the Toffees squad against West Ham on Friday because he was tired and needed some rest.
Ancelotti claims the busy Premier League fixtures has taken its toll on the 24-year-old midfielder, who featured in five games in December for the Toffees.
“Iwobi had a little problem during training, we didn’t want to take the risk,” Ancelotti said during his pre-match interview.
“He has played a lot of games and he needs some rest to be fresh again. Maybe a rest is good for him.
“We have more players back. We have Richarlison and James Rodriguez on the bench, it’s good to have important players.
“The squad is improving. We can prepare well for the next games.”
