The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, promised the Super Eagles N20 million if they beat Cape Verde in their 2022 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Onyema made the promise as the Eagle made their way to Cape Verde for the match on Monday from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Air Peace had signed a deal worth N300m with the Nigeria Football Federation last Wednesday.
Onyema charged the Eagles players to give their best and make the country proud.
“Since we signed with the NFF, peace has been following you, you won your first game resoundingly and we expect that the one happening in Cape Verde in 24 hours’ time will not be different.
“You are not just going to play a football match, you are going to carry on your young shoulders the aspirations and the hope of a nation almost in distress. Football is a unifying factor; that is why we decided to key in and associate with you at this time to restore hope to our nation,” Onyema said.
“When you were playing on Friday last week, everybody jettisoned his ethnicity for Nigeria. The people in the South-East were clapping, the people in the North and South-South were also clapping, expecting that you should win for the nation, nobody remembered his ethnicity, nobody remembered that he was Fulani, Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba, Birom, or wherever, it was all Nigeria. So, you are going out there not just to win matches, but to win souls, to encourage the nation to be together, we need unity more than ever now.
“Because of this, if you win this match, I am going to give you N20m on arrival. If you win the match, I will bring the money cash and hand it over, the moment you land, you will get that N20m waiting for you. It’s not just qualifying this country for the World Cup in Qatar, but I see this as a stepping stone to unify our nation, I want that nationalist zeal to burn in all of you,” Onyema said.
