Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Tsav, has declared that Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State is laying a very dangerous precedence to governance and by so doing digging his own grave.
The former Assistant Inspector General of Police made this declaration in response to the current probe instituted against former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, by Ortom.
Tsav also lamented that people who should caution and advice the governor are not doing so but rather clapping for and praising Ortom to high heavens.
Tsav, in a press release, further advised Ortom that the situation may repeat itself when he vacates office as his followers could desert him and his successor may also probe him.
He said in the statement: “Tomorrow the situation may boomerang and the same people may desert and abandon him like catarpillar for a greener tree with fresh leafs. Some of our Elders don’t even think of the future. To them, the present is more exacting; Why think of the future? But that future must come.”
Taking a swipe at Ortom, Tsav described the current probe as ignorance and over excitement of being a governor.
He said the people who should speak out about the probe are not doing so because of the benefits they are deriving from the probe.
He added: “Tomorrow the hunter may be hunted and there may be gnashing of teeth.”
While acknowledging the evils of corruption, the former Lagos State Police Commissioner however appealed that the fight should be fought with a human face.
He said: “In fighting corruption however, we should apply human face. Let us emulate President Buhari in his fight against corruption. The other day, former President Jonathan visited President Buhari in Aso Rock. After a close door meeting, they came out beaming with smiles while Buhari saw Jonathan off. This did not stop President Buhari from probing Jonathan’s government. That is how we expect Ortom to behave, after all, Suswam did not commit the alleged Offences against Ortom as a person. Why then should Suswam become a nightmare to Gov Ortom?”
